Tom Mank | |||||||||||||||
Tom Mank was born in Baltimore, MD and moved to Ithaca, NY in 1977. He is a singer/self-taught guitarist and independent songwriter who spent the 1980'splaying in folk, blues and progressive bluegrass bands in Ithaca. He has also lived and played original music in Washington, DC; Boston, MA; Brattleboro, VT; Woodstock, NY, and Keene, NH. He has been playing and writing music for over 20 years.
Tom recorded two albums, "Blowin' Me Away" (1991) and "Some Big Town" (1994) which were released on cassette only. "Almost Time" (2000) was his first recording available on CD and featured Sera Jane Smolen on cello, along with Tommy Beers (harmonica), Timmy Brown (electric mandola), Dee Specker (vocals) and Sandy Mandel (vocals). His second CD recording, "Conversations in Waves" (2002), was a duo album with Sera. Special guests on this album include Victoria Paterson (violin), Laura Branca (piano, vocals), Tommy Beers (harmonica), and Patti Witten (vocals). His third CD, again a duo album with Sera, is called "Souls of Birds" and features Laura Branca (vocals), Dee Specker (violin, vocals), Patti Witten (vocals), Will Russell (vocals), Danny Birch (sarod), Ruth Roland (violin), Paul Fairbanks (banjo), and Michael Galloway (trumpet). Tom and Sera just completed their 4th CD entitled "Where the Sun Meets the Blue" which features Amy Merrill (viola), Julie Last (percussion and vocal), Kirsti Gholson (vocal), Pam Daley (vocal), David Hornung (accordian), Josh Roy Brown (lap steel), Michael Veitch (electric guitar), and Edward Biko Smith (congas).
Tom has a Master's Degree in Environmental Management and works as a Transportation Planning Analyst in Tompkins County, New York
