Troodon's Monopoly Collection

I haven't updated this site in a while, but look for the addition of some new sets, including a new one from Thailand, Pokemon Edition, .com Edition, Marvel Comics, and others! I should be able to get them up within the month. I still haven't got around to adding Thai text; if you download the font, you'll see why this is extremeley difficult!(Especially if you aren't familiar with the Thai alphabet!) I'll get around to it eventually. Click here to download the necessary Thai fonts. Also, if you want to be able to read the Russian properties in Cyrillic, click here to download the Cyrillic font.

I was going to take new pictures of all of my Monopoly sets, but my camera broke, so it'll be a while before you see them here. Until then, I have a couple of pictures I borrowed from eBay. I'm waiting for a British set in the mail; I'll add it here as soon as I receive it.

This page has been visited times since May 2, 2000.

Russia (Soviet Union)Monopoly(Vjyjgjkbz), Russia (Soviet Union), Moscow Special Limited Edition, 1988

This is the first (and last) Monopoly to be made in the Soviet Union. Only a limited number were made. An ironic relic of the cold war, considering that Monopoly represents the antithesis of communism! It wasn't until Gorbachev ushered in perestroika and glasnost that Parker Brothers finally got the permission to produce this set. Comes with a special bear token. The properties are all streets in Moscow. Click here to download the Cyrillic font needed to view the properties in Russian.

ThailandMonopoly, Thailand, Standard Edition, ????

This set is an unusual one. It's pretty cheaply made, and might not be an authorised edition. It's completely in Thai, so I'm not sure of the year or manufacturer. The board has drawings of different areas around Thailand. Instead of Income Tax, there's a 5th railroad (or equivalent; the pictures where the railroads should be look like hotels or apartment buildings.) As soon as I figure out how to put Thai text on this page, I'll add the property names. Click here to download the necessary fonts.

Pieces: Plastic; pawn-shaped; red, white, blue, black, yellow, green

Dice: Plastic; Red dots(1,4) or black dots(2,3,5,6) on white

Houses: Plastic; yellow; classic style w/ doors and windows

Hotels: Plastic; red; classic style w/ doors and windows (only comes with 8, there aren't any missing, that's just all it comes with!)

Monopoly Junior

Monopoly Junior, 1990

This is the first version of Monopoly Junior ever produced (one was planned in 1946, but it was never produced). It is a simplified version of Monopoly where you get monopolies by putting your ticket stands on matching amusement park rides. This version comes in a larger box than the one currently produced, and has "Junior" in white letters on a blue banner. The picture is of Rich Uncle Pennybags running with children drawn in the same style along the Boardwalk, with an amusement park in the background.

Monopoly Junior, Travel Edition, 1994

Die: Replaced by a spinner.

Houses: (ticket booths) Each property has a little wheel that can be turned by the pieces; you rotate it to the color and number of houses on that space.

Monopoly Junior, 1996

This more recent version of Monoply Junior comes in a smaller box. It has fewer ticket booths per player (14 each isn't really necessary) and has different graphics. The logo on the front has the newer Monopoly banner with Rich Uncle Pennybags hanging out of the "O" over the word Junior in yellow bubble letter. The picture on the box is of children riding a roller coaster with the picture of the board superimposed on the track, with an amusement park in the background.

Monopoly Spin-Offs

Advance to Boardwalk, 1985

This spin-off, which never really caught on, involves trying to be the first to reach $60 million, or have the most money when the game ends, by building hotels on the Boardwalk. Scoring who owns a property depends on how many hotels are there, of whose color, or whose was closest to the bottom. The confusion is probably why the game didn't last too long.

Pieces: Plastic; violet baby carriage, red roller skate, grey moped, yellow sailboat

Dice: two plastic dice with white dots on red, one wooden color die

Hotels: plastic; stackable squares; 20 each violet, red, grey, yellow
