There's a handful of characters from Kenner's original Star Wars action figure line that still haven't been produced by Hasbro, and General Madine is arguably the most important of them. He's therefore a popular choice among customizers, and a figure I'd been meaning to make for some time. Easily one of my most complicated customs, this required parts from six different figures to complete. I started with the head of a Chancellor Valorum figure, because it already looks remarkably like General Madine, and spent some time sculpting on the hair and the beard. The torso from a Lando General figure was sliced in half, from the neckline to the stomach, and the two halves were sanded down and then re-glued together. The resulting chest piece matches the Lando General figure's uniform, but with a much smaller build. The shoulders are also taken from the Lando general figure, but the forearms are from a Weequay skiff guard and the gloves -- well, I can't remember what figure the gloves came from, but they're pretty generic. |

The legs are from a Garindan figure, with Ponda Baba's boots attached. The jacket / skirt piece was cut from the inner skirt of the Chancellor Valorum figure and glued under the belt. Finally, the belt pouch was sculpted separately and glued on once the body had been painted. As always, the painting was the most difficult and frustrating part of the process for me, but this time I'm fairly happy with the results. | ||||||||||||
The eyes and eyebrows were carefully painted to match General Madine's features (and to make the head look less like Chancellor Valorum)! The beard came out a little more rugged-looking than I had intended, but I have yet to fix it.

Here you see Madine posed with Hasbro's Mon Mothma (who sacrificed her baton for my custom Madine) and Admiral Ackbar figures. I had just begun sculpting a helmet on Ackbar's head, planning on repainting the figure to make a different Mon Calamari character, when I learned that Hasbro would be releasing their own Mon Calamari Officer figure. |
