Camp Friendship (Under Construction)
Korat, Thailand (1963)
Sign with the 9th Logistics Command Logo, Camp Friendship was next to the
RTAF AB. The U.S. Army had enough quarters and stockpiled equipment
to support an infantry battle group, eg, the 25th Infantry Division
stationed in Hawaii - if they were ever needed.

Khorat Royal Thai Air Force Base - My first photo
in Thailand. Our platoon from the 720th MP Bn in
Ft Hood had made the 4 day flight (with one
emergency landing in Guam) to take part in a
SEATO exercise that JFK had ordered to "make a
statement" to the Thai Communists and Pathet
Lao. -1963

720th Military Police Battalion
A New Zealand RAF Bristol transport. Once I flew in one to Bkk, less than
1,000 feet above the ground. I could see the farmers looking up and the
water buffalo scattering. The Kiwi's were characters. Every aircraft,
vehicle, power unit or other mobile piece of equipment on base had a large blue
"kiwi bird" stenciled on it. Before we began to unload our C-124 they had
already "tagged" it.

Hi Frank,
Saw your website and thought I'd send a picture you might like.
I have a website at
www.billperson.com
and recently joined the TLC-Brotherhood. Wow, inundated with E-mails.
Don't have time to read them all and I have to delete a bunch to keep to my
expanded hotmail space.

I was TDY to Bangkok from Wakkanai, Japan Mar-May 1965. I was project
officer to the Queen Bee Delta Project, intercepting NVN air defense
capabilities as prelude to Rolling Thunder. Then I was back at Korat in
1967/68 with the 553rdRCW, EC-121R Batcats, sensors and all that.
I had a friend, Mrs. Giap who ran the Fortuna Hotel in Bangkok and she
wangled a seat for me and another Captain Elde Woller with BGen. Black's
entourage at the 1967 Bob Hope Show. Gen. Black CO of Friendship with his
wife on front row, Mrs. Giap and friends 2nd row and I am on the aisle seat
3rd row in shades with Elde on my right.
Great stuff out there.
Regards
