The Smiley

The Smiley Face has been used as the Trademark for the term "Have a Nice Day". Always a cool character in my book. (Of course, created by Forrest Gump, right?)

Chocobos

Chocobos are big bird-like creatures that are known as a hero's best friend.   Heroes have been using them like horses for several years now. Chocobos were created by Squaresoft's Final Fantasy series. Here is an example of two of the Chocobos.

RayMan

Rayman is the coolest character without arms and legs.  He is the only hero I know who throws his hands to knock unwanted enemies off the stage while trying to save little grape people.

Mog (Moogles)

Moogles are basically white little winged creatures from the game Final Fantasy VI (III, in America). These guys are a really cool bunch.

Garfield

The greatest comic strip cat of all time.  Garfield is a big fat orange cat who lives with his owner Jon.  Jon also has a pet dog, Odie, whom Garfield likes to kick.   Garfield's main habits are sleeping and eating.

Calvin & Hobbes

Calvin is a 9 year old child with an imagination that cannot be beaten.  His stuffed tiger, Hobbes, seems to always follow him around.  They do stupid things like go down a hill in an uncontrolled wagon.

Jason (Foxtrot)

This comic strip, Foxtrot, has one of the best computer programmers of all time, Jason. Jason always is annoying his older sister Paige, while making the strangest things with his friend, Markus, without the permission of his parents, Roger and Andy. While all this is happening, Peter, his older brother is rockin' with his guitar while Quincy, Jason's iguana is eating Paige's Homework

Snoopy & Woodstock (Peanuts)

The ageless comic, Peanuts has been giving us Snoopy and Woodstock.  Peanuts is one of the few comics with 'growing characters'.

Beetle Bailey

Beatle Bailey is an army recruit who is an expert at getting away from work. Beatle goes around his camp looking for ways to escape work and get his Sergeant angry.

Bilbo Baggins

This unsuspecting, mild-mannered Hobbit (a short, human-like creature, about 3' tall) embarks on a great journey to become the 14th of a band of Dwarves.  While on his little adventure, Bilbo finds a ring that later becomes the center of J.R.R. Tolkien's Trilogy, Lord of the Rings.

Gandalf

A great wizard who generally guides Bilbo through his adventure, and later he also helps Bilbo's Son-in-law, Frodo. Few cool characters are as mystic or magical as Gandalf.

Dragon Ball Z

Dragon Ball Z is a comic made in Japan. All of its characters have a really cool special ability to get strange things like yellow hair, or the ability to throw energy balls at enemies. Its main character, San Goku, is the most powerful of these guys, and loves to eat.  His sons, San Gohan and San Goten are almost as strong.  There is nothing funnier than seeing a dinosaur try to stomp Goten (about 2 1/2 feet tall), and Goten pick up the dinosaur instead.

King Graham and his Family

King Graham started off in the very first King's Quest with dark, brown hair.  He has since grown old and his son, Alex is now the center of attention of the later, King's Quest VI.  This is again one rare game with characters who grow old as time progresses.

Cedrick the Owl

Another great helper, Cedrick.  Cedrick has appeared in many King's Quest episodes, and has become among the ranked Cool Characters for his innate ability to be there whenever you needed help.

Opus

The near-extinct comic of Bloom County houses one of the world's best penguin, Opus.   Opus is a little guy who always attends his parties looking his best. He is a mild-mannered young penguin, and the girls love him too - he never wears pants.

The Green Alien on the Cover to "The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy"

Well, this is a simple, green alien with no eyes, two hands one mouth, and a tongue that never goes away.  Although it never appears within any of the books, he is still a really cool character.
