INSITE INTO WBMB " THE BEAT OF BARUCH! "

A breath of fresh air into the once dying WBMB Radio Station, Ms. Berger stands tall while being proud of the direction the station is taking under her management and that she hopes will continue as WBMB grows and gets better with age.

WBMB was first built/created back in 1977. When Baruch College occupied 360 PAS the radio station was located in the basement, which later became the location for the school bookstore. When the original radio station space was to be moved to make room for the school bookstore, the radio station was moved to the corner of the 14th floor (club room floor) of 360 PAS. As the years went on management eventually changed and when it did it changed making more or a negative impact instead of a positive one. The radio station under the 1999 - 2000 General Manager became increasingly more Urban oriented. At this point the station started to fall apart and loose most of its members because the radio station was also no longer broadcasting on its 590 AM frequency due to an error when the station moved.

In late 2000 management changed twice and Ms. Jesse Berger was General Manager by the time Baruch was preparing to move from 360 PAS to the new Vertical Campus. Now in the process of moving with no viable way to broadcast the radio station for the second time packed up its boxes and looked forward to a fresh start in a new building with better technological capabilities to ensure that they could be heard better than ever before. When WBMB arrived in their newly assigned suite at One Baruch Way (VC Building) the members who were still with WBMB were less than thrilled about the apparent cut back in space that they were allotted, but in true WBMB style they made due with what they were given. Since WBMB has been moved in to the Vertical Campus they have yet to have assembly complete of certain areas. Due to this unfortunate circumstance the station has been running on empty with a team of dedicated individuals who have chosen and continue to choose to volunteer there time in hopes of providing a fully functional radio station to the masses at Baruch College and the community surrounding it.

After long delays initial construction was started in late May of 2002 and has been a work in progress waiting to provide to the students music, news, information and entertainment. As of October 10, 2002 WBMB Radio partially launched day to day operations, but due to the circumstances given (equipment over 15 years old) WBMB is running but unless we can find new equipment to sustain broadcasting requirements we will be stuck between a rock and a hard place. We hope that in time we will be able to disseminate information to the Baruch population with the help and guidance of administration.
