Spectacular Science Fair Projects and Ideas!

Science Fair. Those two words are enough to scare anyone.  My 1st and 2nd graders are supposed to do a what?!?  And as I looked for resources, I realized that for primary grades, there isn't much out there to help with a science fair project!  What is a good teacher to do?

On this page, I'm compiling a list of the resources I used to help create excellent science fair projects.  Your child can do it!  I'm also including the science fair packet I sent home to my student's families to help prepare them for the science fair!

Science Fair Ideas: Here are some tried and true project ideas that your primary students can do with little to no assistance from an adult.  I included this list in my science fair packet that I sent home to parents. How much salt does it take to float an egg? What kind of juice cleans pennies the best? Which dish soap makes the most bubbles? What brand of raisin cereal has the most raisins? How long will it take a drop of food dye to color a glass of still water? Does warm water freeze faster than cool water? Do different types of apples have the same number of seeds? Does holding a mirror in front of a fish change what a fish does? Will bananas brown faster on the counter or in the fridge? Which paper towel is the strongest? Do plants need light? Do plants need water? Do plants like a certain color? Do plants like music? Do plants grow in different soils? Do plants like different kinds of liquids? What kind of food does my pet like best? What stains won't come out of clothing? What things are and aren't picked up by a magnet? How long does it take a plant to grow? What kind of hand soap works the best? Will a plant grow inside a bottle? Can a balloon pick up paper? (static electricity) How many drops of water can you put on different coins? Does air take up space?

Here are the words to my science experiments song (sung to the tune of "Yankee Doodle")  The song is written by Paula Ross!  Thank you for letting me share it! Procedure is how I do it. Hypothesis is my guess. Results are what happened. Conclusion:  Was I right or wrong? Science experiments are discovering. Science experiments are fun. Right or wrong, you will learn Something new from every one.
