GROOMING YOUR SAMOYED |
The Samoyed has no "doggy" odor as most dogs. His coat will also shed most dirt, daily brushing with a pin brush is usually all it takes to maintain a Sammy. It isn't as difficult as it may seem. |
As you can see, groomed properly, the Samoyed is beautiful! |

NEVER BRUSH A DRY COAT! You are less likely to rip the fur and the end result gives a nice stand-off effect. Keep a spray bottle of cold water or a de-tangler you can buy from your pet supplier. |

STEP 1: BRUSH YOUR SAMMY FIRST Take a "pin brush" and start at the neck, just behind the ears, part a section from ear to ear; and with a lifting motion, from the skin out, brush forward. When you're satisfited that there is no more loose hair, make a second part about an inch further down the neck and repeat. |

STEP 2: Once all the loose hair is brushed out, you are ready to bathe your sammy. Place two large wads of cotton in your dogs ears to prevent any water from getting in and have lots of towels handy.
Use tepid (cool) water. Start behind the ears and work your way down to the tail. Apply shampoo over wet area. Scrub down to the skin working up a good lather. Wet again and scrub again to work loose any stubborn dirt. Rinse well, making sure there are no signs of shampoo left.
Now you are ready to wash the ears and face. Use a damp washcloth and a no-tears baby shampoo. When rinsing the head and face area, grab the fur under the chin firmly and hold the head down, spray water on the back side of the ears and down the face. Again, make sure there are no signs of shampoo left.

STEP 3:
DRYING YOUR SAMMY Briskly towel dry to remove as much water as possible. You can blow dry brushing hair forward while blow drying will allow hair to stand-up, giving a fluffier appearance. Always brush hair forward. A "doggie" comb works best, but a brush can also be used. You should always allow 6-8 hours for coat to completely dry before allowing your pet to "go out" if the weather is chilly. |
