Gryphon Class Light Modular Vessel
The first Gryphon Class Destroyer began its testing period at the end of 2409, under the command of LtCmdr. Firestorm. The vessel was designed as a smaller alternative to the Hood Class Modular Cruiser, its purpose being to provide a similar flexibility to the Hood Class, on a smaller scale. There is currently only one Gryphon Class Destroyer in service, the USS GRYPHON herself. This ship currently serves in the Cocoon Fleet and played a crucial part in the Battle for the Cocoon.

ADDITIONAL NOTES REGARD GRYPHON CLASS
The GRYPHON-class Light Modular Vessel is designed as a smaller alternative to the
HOOD-class vessels. Capable of support any of 6 mission specific modules,
the GRYPHON-class vessel is deployed when the vast resources of a HOOD-class
vessel are not required. The GRYPHON-class vessel is amongst the fastest vessels of it's classification. It's low profile is a result of recent developments in warp engineer. As a result the ship differs from the usual primary/secondary hull styling of most Starfleet vessels. This means the ship is incapable of seperation in emergency situations, however it also allows for a more efficient distribution of systems. The ship's weapons reflect the GRYPHON-class starship's alternative application as a peacekeeping vessel. The standard armament are two torpedo launchers, and two phaser strips. The short and long range sensor systems of the GRYPHON-class starship are equivelant to most vessels of it's size. It is assumed that for scientific or reconnaisance missions the GRYPHON-class starship would use the sensor pallette module designed for such missions. The mission modules each include their own independant fusion reactors, to supply additional power to the systems they support, that the host vessel might not otherwise be able to provide. In emergencies this reactor can be used as an auxillary power source for the host vessel. |
