Born in Porto Quebracho, in the Brazilian state of Mato Grosso do Sul, Professor Cunha Campos has lived since she was eight months old in the city of Rio de Janeiro, where she studied at Santa Rosa de Lima Catholic School (Dominican nuns). She got her degree in Letters (Portuguese-French) at Santa Úrsula University and her M.A. and Ph.D. at PUC, Rio de Janeiro.
Professor of Brazilian Literature at the State University of Rio de Janeiro (UERJ), she is currently a faculty member in the undergraduate and graduate programs of that institution. She is also active in the ProAfro-CCS Research group at UERJ.
Essayist, poet and short story writer, she is a member of international and national scientific associations (International Comparative Literature Association, International Association of Lusitanistas, Brazilian Association of Comparative Literature). She is a former Council member of the National Association of Graduate Studies and Research in Letters and Linguistics, and coordinator of the Comparative Literature Workgroup in the above association; also a member of the Workgroups 'The Woman in Literature and Comparative Literature'.
As co-coordinator (with Doris Sommer) of the 1st part of the 3rd volume of the collection "Culturas literárias na América Latina" (Literary Cultures in Latin America) and author of one of its essays, she took part in the project "Rethinking Latin American Literature", sponsored by the University of Toronto, Canada, under the coordination of Mário Valdés. She participated in lectures, roundtables and workshops in conventions and seminars in Brazil, the United States, Canada, Portugal, the Netherlands and Italy. She was awarded national literary prizes in fiction, poetry and essay. She can speak English, Spanish, German and French. /B>
