CROW III : SALVATION

Hey, here's something that sucks!... The first 2 Crow films had kick ass sound tracks, so I didn't even think about not buying this... big mistake. The fact that the film is still nowhere to be seen should have been a tip off. As with most compilation CDs there are some good tracks... "Burning Inside" (yes the kool Ministry tune) by Static X, Featuring Burton C. Bell Of Fear Factory is killer. As is "Underbelly Of The Beast" By Danzig and "Living Dead Girl" (Naked Exorcism Mix) by Rob Zombie. The rest blows... Kid Rock's song is lame, so is Hole's, and it looks like Pitchshifter (who used to be very kool) is now trying to be as lame as Filter (can you believe how mainstream these guys went, it makes me want to puke!). All in all, I would say only grab this if you are a Danzig or Zombie completest, otherwise take your $15 elsewhere.
RATING = 3 Metal/Alternative (Released 2000)

HOUSE OF 1000 CORPSES

Being a big fan of Mr. Zombie, and also a big fan of horror movies, I was pretty much destined to own this CD. I've been hearing about this flick for so long, that it almost seems unreal that it is actually about to be released. I want more than anything for it to be the greatest horror experience of all time, but in my heart, I know I'll probably end up disappointed, and this disc sure doesn't do anything to change that prediction. Why's that? Well, lets take a look shall we? First of all, just from a music standpoint, the reason people are going to buy this is obviously for the new Zombie material. At first glance, out of the ten real songs on this disc, it looks like we are getting five new Zombie songs, plus a strange remake he collaborated on with Lionel Richie, yes, that's not a typo, I said Lionel Richie! All in all, that's not bad for most fans, five new songs usually warrants a purchase, but wait, all is not what it seems. One of those five tracks, "House Of 1000 Corpses", appeared on Zombie's 2001 CD, "The Sinister Urge". So it's only four new ones plus the Lionel Richie thing. Still, not too bad. The new Zombie tracks, while not being his best work, are still cool, and will help manage to tide you over until the master releases his next full length effort in 2004. The other Zombie tunes for the record are; "Everybody Scream", "Run Rabbit Run", "Pussy Liquor", and "Little Piggy". The remake with Lionel Richie is called "Brick House 2003", which is a remake of the original Commodores hit from 1977! Not sure how that fits in with the Horror-Metal, Punk, and Country tunes, but there it is. It's also kind of a jab at the rest of the Commodores, who revamped the song themselves as "Brick House '93", minus Mr. Richie, on their poorly received "No Tricks" album. And well, lets just say it's interesting. It works on an oddball level, and shows a funky side of Zombie we've never seen before. There is also a rap contribution to the song from "Trina". For those of you that don't know who Trina is, and why should you, she is a hot rapper that's been around for a couple years. She has 2 CDs; "Da Baddest Bitch" (2000) & "Diamond Princess" (2002). I wouldn't personally cross the road to hear her CDs, but if it makes any difference to ya, she is one fine looking lady. What about the other songs you ask? Well, there's "Now I Wanna Sniff Some Glue" by the Ramones, which is a great tune, but you should all own a copy of it already, so it's kind of a throwaway. Then we have three pieces of pure grade "A" shit, two Country songs, and one song so ancient I can't believe it; "I Remember You" by Slim Whitman, "Who's Gonna Mow Your Grass" by Buck Owens, and "I Wanna Be Loved By You" by Helen Kane, which is from the late 20s (who the fuck under the age of 80 would want to hear this??)... just horrible. The other 15 tracks to be found on this disc are mostly made up of dialogue and sound clips from the film, and this is what's causing my reservations about the flick, this is the most retarded dialogue in the history of the English language. Maybe somehow, it'll work better when I see the film, and it's all in its proper context, but I have my doubts, strong, strong doubts.
RATING = 5 Metal/Country/Punk (Released 2003)

SCREAM III : THE ALBUM

Finally, a good soundtrack CD. So often we buy these because we love one or two artists, and then we never play the thing because the rest just sucks so hard. Well here is one you can play from back to back without puking (Even the 2 Creed songs are tolerable). The highlights on this CD are many, Wait And Bleed - Slipknot, Tyler's Song - Coal Chamber, Time Bomb - Godsmack, Get On, Get Off - Powerman 5000, plus more, to make up 18 heavy tracks! The best thing is that the band choices match up quite well, and they don't throw a rap tune in the middle to try and pander to all musical tastes on one CD. (it seems like every soundtrack is trying this now). This is also a good CD to get if you have been "sitting on the fence" trying to decide about picking up some of these new bands discs, this will give you a great overview of the newest "Ozzfest-friendly" bands out there.
RATING = 8 Metal/Neo-Metal/Alterna-Rock (Released 2000)
