The Baton Rouge Louisiana Temple

of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints

From the late 1840s to the turn of the century tens of thousands of Church members, most of them recent converts traveled up the Mississippi River from New Orleans on their way to St. Louis to begin the trek west to Zion. All of them passed by the then small city of Baton Rouge. Many wrote in their journals about the beauty of the landscape that they passed through, often calling it a paradise. Now Baton Rouge is home of a piece of Zion, and the many members of the Church there can visit paradise in the form of the new temple.

The temple was announced on 14 October 1998.
Ground was broken and construction begun on 8 May 1999.
The cornerstone was laid and the temple dedicated on 16 July 2000.
There are 2 Sealing rooms and 2 Ordinance rooms in the 10,769 square foot temple.
The spire is 75 feet tall.
The Baton Rouge Temple serves stakes in Louisiana and Mississippi.
