The Chicago Illinois Temple

of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints

The Church's second temple, the Nauvoo Temple, was built in Illinois, just a few hours drive from the sight of the Chicago Temple. At the time Nauvoo was the second largest city in the state, second only to Chicago itself. The third of the larger six spired temples, Chicago was also quickly outgrown and an additional 19,210 square feet were added just three years after its original dedication. This more than doubled the Chicago Temple's total floor space.

The temple was announced in April 1981.
Ground was broken and construction begun in August 1983.
The cornerstone was laid and the temple dedicated on 9-13 August 1985.
There are 3 Sealing rooms and 5 Ordinance rooms in the 37,060 square foot temple.
The tallest (east center) spire is 112 feet tall.
The Chicago Temple serves stakes in Michigan, Minnesota, Wisconsin, and parts of Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, North Dakota, South Dakota and Ohio.

I have not yet found any pictures of the interior.
