The Cochabamba Bolivia Temple

of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints

The Lord was ready for the temple in Cochabamba to be completed. The temple is symbolically located near a commanding hill that has a large statue of Christ at the top. At dawn each day the statue of Christ is illuminated first, then the temple's spire and statue of Moroni. The temple was originally scheduled to take two years to build but it took nearly four. Then, after the open house and dedication were scheduled, the Bolivian Government imposed martial law for 90 days on the city due to social unrest. However, they recinded the order after only 13 days. The open house was originally scheduled to last two weeks, and the dedication for two days, after the imposition of martial law, each was rescheduled to last half as long. Dispite the brevity of the open house over 65,000 people attended, including 20,000 in one day.

The temple was announced on 13 January 1995.
Ground was broken and construction begun on 10 November 1996.
The cornerstone was laid and the temple dedicated on 30 April 2000.
There are 3 Sealing rooms and 2 Ordinance rooms in the 35,500 square foot temple.
The spire is ? feet tall.
The Cochabamba Temple serves stakes in Bolivia.
