The Reno Nevada Temple
of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints

Reno, like its older sister, Las Vegas, is a gambling town full of casinos. Casinos mean bright, some would say garish, neon lights. So it is somewhat ironic that neighbors to the new Reno Temple voiced their opposition to the Church's plan to light the building at night. However, their opposition is understandable. Casinos are places to visit, not to live next to. The Church reassured the concerned neighbors that the temple's lighting would be focused on the building itself and would not shine into their yards and homes. They also assured them that the lighting would be anything but garish. Now that the temple is dedicated and illuminated each night, some of the neighbors wonder what the complaints were all about. Not only are the temple's lights not too bright, they are also beautifully peaceful. Standing on the hill near the temple one can easily see the downtown area; its lights are a sharp contrast to those on the temple.
The temple was announced on 12 April 1999.
Ground was broken and construction begun on 24 July 1999.
The cornerstone was laid and the temple dedicated on 23 April 2000.
There are 2 Sealing rooms and 2 Ordinance rooms in the 10,700 square foot temple.
The spire is about 78 feet tall.
The Reno Temple serves stakes in western Nevada and eastern California.
