The following is a short summary of each of the names I am researching. Some I know a great deal about and others very little. There is nothing worse than having to plough your way through research that is of no interest so I have kept it to the very minimum.

My hope is that if you see something that could possibly be of use to you then you will e-mail me.

I do have a great many books etc. on the counties of Norfolk,Suffolk,Cambridge and Ireland..with Ireland is not so much knowing where the records are as how much it will cost you to get hold of them. Irish research can be costly and heartbreaking but not impossible.

My prize possessions are three Kelly's Directories;Norfolk,Suffolk & Cambridge 1900,Norfolk & Suffolk 1912 and Norfolk & Suffolk 1933, I also have the microfiche of Cambridgeshire Baptism and Burials 1801/1837.I have the Norfolk Members Interest Directory 1996(microfiche)and Kelly's Directory of Cambridgeshire 1883(microfiche).Even if you don't have any link with my names I will glady check these out for you.

A fascination with a photograph of a handsome young man in uniform, started me off on a long journey(metaphorically speaking!)from the fields of Norfolk to the Agean Sea.If you are interested in the life of a Norfolk country boy,or WW1 research, then this will help in both casesFrom Norfolk to Gallipoli

The idea of sharing books,maps etc. is one that the Internet was made for.

HOWELL

• Lowestoft pre 1800. Mainly farmers.Somewhere along the line there is a connection with HOWARDS in America,Churchville,New York. Try as I have I cannot link them. I would very much like to discover my American cousins - they are out there somewhere!

SAMPSON

• South Elmham pre 1785.Shoemakers,ships caulker,labourers.They have some very strange forenames:Jochabed(female)Barzillai(male).Have not found these names in any book..perhaps they are telling me something??

• Dry Drayton pre 1700.Blacksmiths and farmers..reasonably wealthy.

CARTER

• Melbourne pre 1800.Frederick a policeman in Melbourne and then a porter in one of the universities.

CHEESMAN/CHEESEMAN

• Impington pre 1700.Land and property owners in, also in the Histon areas. Have some interesting Wills .

FROHOCK/FROWHOCK/FROHAWK

• Dry Drayton pre 1800.Mostly labourers.Susan Hannah,housekeeper, married her employer HOBSON and took a step up. There is a branch of Hobson-Frohocks still in Cambridgeshire.

HOBSON

• This family had a great deal of land and property and have been well documented to pre 1600 in Histon.It is very probable that Thomas Hobson of "Hobson's Choice" fame was a cousin but not proven. Also Cottenham,Cambridge and Impington.There is a One Name Study of this name:Fred Hobson,34,Sycamore Road,Ecclesfield, Sheffield,S30 3YW,England.

• Stow-cum-quy pre 1837.Name changed from Isaacson to Ison..little known

• Sligo/Roscommon/Mayo/Leitrim area pre 1850.Patrick was a police sergeant in Sligo, his father was a plumber in 1850( that's what it said on the marriage certificate!) The family were protestant.

UNITED STATES OF AMERICA

HOWARD

• Churchville,New York early 1900's. On October 2nd 1917,Charles W.Howard aged 82 died after falling from an apple tree(what was he doing up there at his age??) His son,George C.Howard,Counsellor at Law,111,Broadway,New York, wrote to my Great x 3 grandfather,William Howell, and addressed him as "My dear Uncle.." I have explored every avenue to find this relationship..without success. I have American cousins out there..BUT I CAN'T FIND THEM!!!!
