Hi! I'm moonmarj.
I am retired, but have continued to be involved in as much as possible :).
My interests are varied and many. One of my interests is collecting aphorisms, adages, and affirmations. These words of wisdom have been my "quiding stars" on the sometimes tumultuous sea of life or have led me to a new understanding of myself and my relationship with those around me. Sometimes, they have just reminded me to not take myself or situations in my life so seriously.
To me, studying the philosophers is like
I invite you to share these gems of wisdom.
Perhaps they will speak to your heart
as they have to mine.
Soren Kierkegaard:
Journals and Papers (1843), vol. 1
a trip to a well.
I take what I need at the moment.
And, like going to a well, visiting with the philosophers is not a one time thing.
As I grow my perspective changes as does my ability to comprehend new facets of the philosopher's words.
I have had some personal experiences which underscore Hamlet's words...experiences which I cannot explain. They were as "real," at the time of their occurrence as this computer keyboard on which I am typing this is now.
Some of the most beautiful spiritual experiences I have had were in moments when I felt at one with "all creatures" and with Nature. If this world is to survive, I believe, we must return to this awareness of our role as stewards of our environment...of our inter-dependence with all creation.
I am also interested in the preservation of cultural heritage. Much of the wisdom of the elders and the Shamans were taught through the stories they told, in much the same way that Christ used parables. However, because these stories were not written they are being lost to antiquity.
I also like crossword puzzles
(especially anacrostics), computers, music
(all kinds), video games, cartoons, animated movies (a la Walt Disney), action movies
(Chuck Norris is my "hero"), and walking.
During football season, I can be found glued to my television or the radio, listening and/or watching the Buffalo Bills.
Some "perfect" moments for me include: Taking my coffee out on the front poarch and watching the sun come up over the lake; waking up to the sounds of birds singing; walking in the rain, the snow, or on a bright, Spring day; reading to my granddaghter when she was young; or enjoying a glass of wine at the end of the day as the sun sets over the lake.
Before you leave, would you take a moment to sign my guestbook?
