INSTALLATION ADVICES FOR THE CYBERSPACE PACKAGE

This file describes installation/deinstallation & problems for the CYBERSPACE/MATRIX program for Shadowrun (TM).

The distribution consists of 

 cybinst.zip
 cybhelp_german.zip (german manual to overwrite the english one included in cybinst.exe)
  1. Rename the archives from *.zip to *.exe (Geocities disallow users to store EXE-Files, so I had to rename them).
  2. Start CYBINST.EXE under Windows (it is a self extracting archive, take the suggested installation path).
  3. You are done!

Problems and additional infos

  1. For the notorious ones: The cyberspace programs cannot corrupt your computer, because the program package does not install any files in the windows\system directory. The registry is not manipulated. Only the file windows\cyberspc.ini is installed in the windows directory. The SETUP.EXE does install the program manager or Win95 taskbar entries and the cyberspc.ini file. So if you do not need the taskbar entries, do not run SETUP.EXE, the programs will run without them. You can remove the Cyberspace package completely from the computer when running SETUP with the deinstall option or when removing the Cyberspace directory and the windows\cyberspc.ini file.
  2. Try to avoid long Win95/98 filenames. If you use them, to have to adapt the pathes in windows\cyberspc.ini to reflect the DOS 8.3 compatible names for those long names (e.g. c:\Program Files\Cyberspace\ must probably be converted to c:\progra~1\cybers~1\). Use the DOS dir command to find out the right name.
  3. If you have a strange display (white parts, that should be gray according to the screenshots in the manual), it might be a library problem. Make sure that you have newer a version of threed.vbx (or cmdialog.vbx, spin.vbx, vbrun300.dll) in your windows\system directory as in the Cyberspace program directory. Then (re)move the library file from the Cyberspace directory to a backup place (e.g. to cyberspc\images) and run the program again to see the difference. If you are completely lost, you may send me a e-mail. Or order the DELUXE version on CDROM. That definitely works. Almost all reported problems result from downloading corruption, setup problems and handling problems which can not occur in the registered disk/CDROM version.

    Deinstallation:

    Simply delete the installation directory (usally c:\progra~1\cyberspc) and the file c:\windows\cyberspc.ini.
