I came across your web site while helping my daughters to research their family connections with the Burgoine (Burgin) family of Waltham on the Wolds, Leics. They are descended from Rhoda Burgoine and John Brown who married in 1861 in Waltham.

I was particularly interested to see that your research shows them as having lived in Brunswick and having had two sons, Arthur and William, who died in infancy. May I ask at this point if the Brunswick in question is the one in Lancashire in what is now part of Greater Manchester? Assuming we are talking of the same Rhoda and John then they later had several more children, including another Arthur and William, whilst living in Waltham. John Brown is such a common name and obviously very difficult to be verified when tracing a family tree (the father of that John Brown was another John), but I wouldn’t expect there to have been too many John Browns of Waltham who married Rhoda Burgoines of the same village.

The later children I mentioned were Rhoda E (born 1873), Rose A (born 1877) Arthur (born 1880) and William (born 1882). I have that information from the census records and their marriage details from their marriage certificate. The 1871 census shows them living together in Waltham with no children (or at least none in the house on that date). I had found that surprising given that they had then been married for almost 10 years and that they subsequently had four children, but it becomes more feasible if they had two children born in 1866 and 1868 who had died. They might also have had others who died in infancy.
