Pioneer Families: Jessup on Sat, 3 Aug 2002 from
Dear Elizabeth,
I found your website when browsing and found my husbands great grandparents on it.
They were:
William Jessup and Mary Ann Richards(on), their daughter Minnie was my husbands grandmother.
William was an "exile" who arrived in Melbourne on 15/01/1848 on the ship "Marion". He was sentenced at Pentonville for stealing a ladies shawl. He was a Wheelwright and Carpenter to trade.
Mary Ann Richards as far as we know was born in Sydney in 1833/1835, mother Mary Ann Richard, father unknown.

about the original family:
Oldest child of William and Mary Ann Richards ( married 1854 ? at 
Avenel)(Williams first job was as a coach wheeler working for Richard Heales,
Collins Lane, Melbourne, assignment for 3 months, wages 5/6 per day)

Eliza Jane Jessop b. 1856 at Castlemaine, married Thomas P. Whittacker Timmins in 1877.

Other details:

William Henry Jessop b. 1857, ? died at Castlemaine Home for the Aged and Infirm in 1940.

Harriet Jessop b. 1875 married to Henry Catt also had a daughter: as well as the 3 sons.
Harriet Catt, b. 1896 at Kew, Vic.

Alice Jessop b. 1880 married to Arthur Regester - he was a grocer of Swan Street, Richmond. Melbourne.

Minnie Jessop b. 1873 married  to: 1. Henry George Bailey b. Thames, NZ in 1873, son of Henry Bailey and
Elizabeth Bonney. at Melbourne.

2. Martin Coulson, b.1856, Norway, son of Charles Coulson and Ann Peterson, at Auckland in 1909

3. William Nicholson, b.1874, Manchester, England, at Auckland in 1925.

All children were born to Henry Bailey:

Violet Bailey born Auckland in 1897, married to Len Rowe
Rita Bailey born Auckland in 1898 married D. Taylor
Ernest Bailey born Auckland in 1899, died 1995, Hasting, New Zealand
George Bailey born Auckland in 1902, won the Military Medal in WW1
Florence Elizabeth Bailey born Auckland in 1903, married to Reginald
Walker - my husbands mother.

When the twins were registered at The Loddon the parents were called Mary Ann Richardson and William Henry Jessup. The family settled at Taradale
