One reference suggests David Maddern came to South Aust 1857 on the Marion, another that he arrived 1853 on the Lorn Langton of 923 tons (but I can not find any reference to this ship)
David Stephens Maddern and Margaret Elizabeth Ellison registered one child in the Victorian Index - Laura Blanch Maddern 1883. Mary Ann Maddern, born in 1867 and claiming this couple as parents, gave South Australia as her birthplace, when she married in 1893.
I found three members of the family from the death Index, who each died at Kaniva in young adulthood.

John Marsden

On 24 Jan 2009, I was given the web address for Not Another John Marsden from Issue 4 of Marsden family History News contributed by Kathleen Lewis. The newsletter of the MARSDEN One-Name Study was published three times a year from the Summer of 1994 to the end of 2002 when publication was ceased. See their Index page.

John Marsden (b. c1774 Nottingham, England) wed Jane Wessley on 18/08/1799 and they had five children – Jane, John, Thomas, Mary Ann and Benjamin.
John Marsden Senior was transported to Tasmania as a convict, arriving at Hobart on 19/10/1812. John Marsden died 14/09/1827 near Launceston. Three of the children, Jane, John and Thomas also came to Tasmania.
1. Jane Marsden (christened 01/06/1800, Nottingham, England) married Robert Stonehouse and they arrived in the Colony "free". She died Feb 10th 1839 aged 39 years, and was buried with her father, at Launceston.
2. John Marsden (b c1800, christened 03/08/1802, Nottingham) was transported to Australia as a convict (arriving at Sydney 26/09/1820). He married Elizabeth Beaven on 29/08/1832 at Launceston and died there on 15/05/1882. Elizabeth c1812 - May 19th 1882, aged 69 years. Children's details come from Tasmanian Archives.

From Not Another John Marsden, describing a photo of a Grave Inscription, "Thomas Marsden who was thrown from his cart which caused death. Oct 4th 1839 in the 37th year of his age, Also, Thomas Marsden, son of John Marsden died May 23rd 1840, aged 7 months 14 days."
