Hello again Elizabeth,
Thank you for the last email and all the sites for me to tap into but... you have the wrong John Thurgood for our line.
John Thurgood Born 1827 in Bishops Stortford
He was the son of Lawrence Thurgood and Rebecca Mountford.
He died 1902 in Stawell.
Cemetery records confirm this. I have also sent for the marriage certificate to see what other info is on it, Now just to make it even more difficult Margaret seems to think they came to S A first before settling in Vic. So as far as the ship he arrived on I'm now back to square one, but I'll keep plugging away have had a bit of help with a lady I know that is keen on finding ancestors.
I have also made contact in Essex with another Thurgood researcher and he found John in 1841 and 1851 census but nothing later

John Thurgood aged 34, a carter from London, was in Meninga, South Australia when he wed in June 1869 to Margaret Cameron aged 21, from Edinburgh, Scotland. They moved to Ballarat West where Rebecca was born, and later to Moyston. In 1886 they decided to have a formal mariage registered as 1886 #1943

Hi Elizabeth,

I got into your site and found that you had the Treadwell and Dean family mentioned. Ellen Dean who married John Treadwell were my Great Uncle and Aunt. Ellen's brother Alfred Dean was my Great Grandfather.

My branch of the family left Maldon two generations ago and came to Sydney. We were one of the missing link branches. Doug Dean found me when he was doing the family history. Doug from Vic has since passed away. There are still a few branches missing.

Hello, I found your great website on the net and I think I am related to you through a common family member. Here is my connection - My Great-Grandmother was Leah Douglass (1862-1946) Her parents were John Douglass and Rachel Beattie
John Douglass' parents were James Douglass and Leah Spence (1797-1885) and his siblings included Henry Douglass and William Douglass
From the information I saw on your tree, Agnes Cameron is a sister of Henry, William and John. The dates and location match up. My Gr-Gr Grandfather John Douglass was married in Belfast in 1860. His brother, Henry Douglass married in Belfast in 1864 to Janes Agnes McCalla. My cousin has an old family bible from Ireland which has some of this information including the Leah Spence information.
I have no information on Agnes Douglass father or generations past James Douglass/Leah Spence. The dates for Leah Spence are noted in this 19th century bible. I would be curious to figure out your relationship to my Gr-Gr-Gr Grandparents, James Douglass and Leah Spence. Would that make us cousins 5X removed?
