MUSCULAR DYSTROPHY is a progressive crippling disease in which the muscle tissues decrease in size and grow weaker, resulting in the loss of mobility, MD is also genetic in nature, therefore is can only be transmitted via DNA (from mother to child). The word Dystrophy come from the Greek prefix dys which means bad or painful and the word trepein meaning nourishment; literally, Dystrophy means insufficient nourishment. There are over 40 different types of Muscular Dystrophy, the most common variety of this rare ailment being Duchenne's MD.
