Charles White

The Search for his roots and his family

Sue At Charles White's graveHere I am in July 1987, not knowing to shoot the picture with black and white film while the shadows are "just right." Charles White was born in 1806 in Connecticut. I haven't been able to find his parents. He was married to Lois Cushman December 20, 1831 in Stafford and he died October 25, 1845. He was buried in Stafford in the veterans cemetery.

Lois went on to run a boarding house in their home in Orcuttville for the factory workers while she was raising her children.

Their Children

Claressa Cornelia Marion Charles E.
1837-1921 1839-1909 1841-1911 1845-1907
The 1860 census of Stafford, CT finds Lois with Claressa, Marion and Charles E. at home, Irena Washburn, age 83 and 10 boarders who all worked in local factories, probably the one less than a block away.

That same census Cornelia was already married to Horatio Needham and living with him and daughters, Della Clara and Eva, ages 3 and 6 months. Della died in 1863. In the 1870 census, there is another daughter, Nettie, born in 1861. Nettie probably never married and was buried next to her parents in 1937. She is living alone in the Stafford 1920 census a couple of houses away from her sister Eva Heminway and her husband Neveron.

Charles E. White married Mary J. Lyon.
