22 May 2005

I was in Belgrade airport and I saw no improvement made highlighted by the others in the report. Sad looking airport, poor service at the business lounge, custom officials that try hard to get "something" out of you. Otherwise the best thing about Belgrade airport is flight out of it.

20 September 2003

Belgrade airport is a true time warp - it's like a small journey back to 1960's (behind the iron curtain!). The airport facilities are poor and not well maintained, there is only one overpriced restaurant, duty free shops are not well stocked (i.e. no malt whiskeys and no Marlboros!), and there is no internet connection available. If you couple this with the fact that it is one of the most disorganized airports I have ever seen in my life (only 3 check-in counters for ALL Yugoslav Airlines international flights, with almost no distinction between business class and economy class check in, then one can only imagine what kind of a mess it was) and with very rude staff, makes it one of the worst airport experiences I ever had. If you ever travel there, make sure that there is someone waiting for you, because taxis available there will rip you off. Do not even think about buses, because they look like they had leased them from a museum.

Belgrade Airport-21 October 2004

Belgrade airport is currently modernising but it is reasonably good at the moment, new airlines like Tunisair, Snowflake and Uzbekistan Airways have opened up routes to there. It is supposed to turn into the logistic centre for the Balkans and it is the largest airport in the Balkans (ex. Athens).

"January 2005 - I had a delayed flight from beograd to cleveland. I didn't have anywhere to go so I decided to sleep at the airport. It wasn't the most comfortable but I managed. Security was definately present, but not as annoying as in the US. I had a beer at one of the bars (great beer, cheap too). Not the newest airport but OK."

BA UK Airline - Low Cost Web Fare
http://www.britishairways.com/
London LHR > Belgrade > London LHR £149
Other info:
It's hardly a budget offer but BA operates what it classes as a low fare route from London Heathrow to Belgrade for a cheapest return fare of £149 including taxes. There's little chance of finding a reasonably priced one-way flight into or out of Serbia & Montenegro with BA - if you want to fly one-way, you're generally better off finding a much cheaper flight to Budapest and taking the train south. The UK flag carrier also operates a return flight to Pristina in the UN exclave of Kosovo for £189.
Snowflake Scandinavian Low Cost Airline https://ibp2.scandinavian.net/
CopenhagenPristina €161
Other info:
The Scandinavian low cost airline, Snowflake, does fly to Serbia & Montenegro, but only to the UNMIK-administered exclave of Kosovo. The cheapest one-way flight to Pristina from Copenhagen comes to €161 including taxes. You can leave Kosovo and travel on to Serbia, Montenegro, Albania or Macedonia, but, if you're heading to this region then, unless you have a pressing need to get to Kosovo quickly, it's probably cheaper to fly to Croatia, cross the border into Bosnia & Herzegovina and travel on from there.
