2000 BRFL Week 13 Results

Week 13 Sets Elite Eight
Bud Clinches East

Everyone won who was expected to win, and there is little suspense left except for the division winners in the Central and West.

East

Bud continues to charge for a in-season points record, he needs 83 and he has at least two games left. With his win this week he slips past Mosakowski-Hale as the winniest BRFL team of all time. You practically could have guessed this score: Bud 77 Stroupe 44. It is the second time this year Bud has hit 77 and the third time in four weeks that Bud's opponent scored 44. The last two were ties with Wallace and Jackson. Although St Louis QBs had an "average" game, Mike Anderson returned and lit up a 17 point game and Marvin Harrison also scored twice. Stroupe, lost in the thanksgiving shuffle, started a default line-up that was noted for two Indy TDs, both to Bud's Harrison. The win finally clinches the division for Bud.

Wallace will place second in the East after beating Outlaw 48-38. Oakland's QBs, Corey Dillon and Matt Stover each had good days. For Outlaw, who moans about playing in Wallace's and Bud's division for the second straight year, will likely make the playoffs based on points again this year.

The Skinny: Bud is the champ and Wallace is in second. Outlaw is in a points slot. Stroupe can get in as a points qualifier if he can outscore Outlaw by 40 or JK by 49 next week.

Central

Barry continues in the Central driver's seat despite being tied with Ricker at 8-5. They split their head to head, but Barry has the better division record. AB dispatched JK 45-19. JK still remains in line for a points playoff slot.

Ricker posted 66 points to Best's 27 after Sunday's action. However, Best made a furious rally to close to 66-59. One batted away Mushin Muhammad pass at the goal line may be what sits Best down for the first time in the post season since 1989. Ricker got an early jump thanks to his Culpepper/Moss combo and then got great games from Warrick Dunn (a rare start) and Michael Pittman on Sunday. Best had a huge game from Jamal Lewis (15 points), but disappointing Skip Hicks couldn't carry the load for the injured Stephen Davis.

The Skinny: Barry and Ricker are in the playoffs. Barry has a tiebreaker for the division. Jones/Klingman are currently in a points slot. Best as a remote shot if he can outscore Outlaw by 44 or JK by 53 next week.

West

Status quo in the West as Moses and the DB's win. Moses bettered the abandoned storefront known as CZ 51-37. The loss is CZ's 12th straight, extending his league record. Moses got a strong game from New Orleans QBs and then got rushing scores from Ron Dayne, James Stewart, Armani Toomer and the "controversial" Zack Crockett. CZ's default line-up featured a TD from Marty Booker. Faithfully played all season, his first TD was this week.

When 59 points can't get you a win this week, you shake your head and look at this: 28-26 by two teams fighting for their playoff lives. DB beat Jackson. No highlights to speak of, one notable lowlight. Jackson benched Jamal Anderson in favor of Rabim Abdallah, Mike Alstott's backup, who did not even touch the ball. He also started a Denver tight end. You got a one-in-three shot... A Denver tight end did score, but it wasn't Dwayne Carswell.

The Skinny: Moses and the DB's play for the division next week. Jackson and CZ are out of the playoffs.

Just a quick one this week as my computer is in the room crawling with Thanksgiving guests... Bud will clinches easily this week. Stroupe has nothing. Wallace should easily skate past Outlaw who will have SF QBs on bye. These two games will settle the East.

Barry with newly potent Washington QBs, Robert Smith and Jerome Bettis should spank JK, who will continue to see their future as a points team. Ricker with the Culpepper Moss duo will end Best's week and season on Thanksgiving.

In the West, The DB's and Moses build toward their week 14 show down.
