Elizabeth,

On your website you have information on the Gooding family, and their arrival into Victoria on the Bombay in 1852. I am a descendant of Jacob Gooding, who was 14 at the time of this arrival. I’m trying to identify when he and perhaps other members of the family later moved on to New Zealand.

Could you point me in the direction of any further information you know of on the voyage of the Bombay from England to Australia in 1852? Do you know how or when any members moved to New Zealand?

I understand that the focus of your information is Charles Gooding, who remained in Victoria. I’m trying to pin down when others arrived in New Zealand and where they landed. Jacob must have moved on between 1852 (arrival in Australia) and 1861 (his marriage in New Zealand).

Regards

Grieves

From on Wed, 26 Oct 2005

Hello Elizabeth,

We are probably rellies of some sort. I notice your GRIEVES entry on your website has a couple of mistakes. John and Janet had 2 boys and 8 girls. I have pictures of them all.

I am the son of Lawrence Grieves.

John arrived in Australia in 1858, aged 16, with his father Robert and mother Mary (Wilson) Grieves. They wrote back to Robert's sister Mary Ann (Grieve) Steel or Steell from 1858 to 1873 and the letters have been kept. If you'd like to read them I'll post you copies of the material. Let me know by email.

It appears that Robert was christened as GRIEVE. There was another sister Francis.

Go to www.nevra.com.au/gen.html to see my brother's and my pedigree.
