He wed 19 Sep 1840 to Mary Johnstone, daughter of Doree and John Robert Johnstone Mary was born on board her father's ship in the bay of Naples, Italy in 1819 and she died 25 Mar 1886 in New Zealand Thomas wed 18 Jun 1884 in St Patrick's Cathedral, Auckland, New Zealand to Elizabeth Ryder (1837 - 1886) Thomas died on the train on his way to or from church. He was found dead in the train at Richmond Station later that day. The parish priest was not willing to bury him in consecrated ground because he didn't know whether Thomas had been to church
