"Wherefore laying aside all malice, and all guile, and hypocrisies, and
envies, and all evil speakings, {2} As newborn babes, desire the sincere
milk of the word, that ye may grow thereby: {3} If so be ye have tasted
that the Lord is gracious. {4} To whom coming, as unto a living stone,
disallowed indeed of men, but chosen of God, and precious, {5} Ye also,
as lively stones, are built up a spiritual house, an holy priesthood,
to offer up spiritual sacrifices, acceptable to God by Jesus Christ. {6}
Wherefore also it is contained in the scripture,
Behold, I lay in Sion a
chief corner stone, elect, precious: and he that believeth on him shall not
be confounded. {7} Unto you therefore which believe he is precious: but
unto them which be disobedient,
the stone which the builders disallowed,
the same is made the head of the corner, {8} And a stone of stumbling, and
a rock of offence, even to them which stumble at the word, being
disobedient: whereunto also they were appointed.
{9} But ye are a chosen
generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye
should show forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness
into his marvellous light: {10} Which in time past were not a people, but
are now the people of God: which had not obtained mercy, but now have
obtained mercy."
(1_Pet_2:1-10)
"What shall we say then? That the Gentiles, which followed not after
righteousness, have attained to righteousness, even the righteousness
which is of faith. {31} But Israel, which followed after the law of
righteousness, hath not attained to the law of righteousness. {32}
Wherefore? Because they sought it not by faith, but as it were by the
works of the law.
For they stumbled at that stumblingstone; {33} As it is
written, Behold, I lay in Sion a stumblingstone and rock of offence: and
whosoever believeth on him shall not be ashamed."
...{5} For
Moses describeth the righteousness which is of the law, That the man which
doeth those things shall live by them. {6} But the righteousness which is
of faith speaketh on this wise, Say not in thine heart, Who shall ascend
into heaven? (that is, to bring Christ down from above:) {7} Or, Who shall
descend into the deep? (that is, to bring up Christ again from the dead.)
{8} But what saith it? The word is nigh thee, even in thy mouth, and in
thy heart: that is, the word of faith, which we preach; {9} That if thou
shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine
heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. {10}
For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth
confession is made unto salvation. {11} For the scripture saith, Whosoever
believeth on him shall not be ashamed. {12} For there is no difference
between the Jew and the Greek: for the same Lord over all is rich unto all
that call upon him. {13} For whosoever shall call upon the name of the
Lord shall be saved."
