1975 MEN'S PRELIMINARY 3

The final preliminary round of 1975 featured nine football players and athletes from tennis, bowling and auto racing. For the second straight year, O.J. Simpson of the Buffalo Bills won the preliminary round with four event wins. Simpson set a record of 9.76 second in the 100 yard dash and beat his top challengers, Phil Villapiano of the Oakland Raiders and Franco Harris of the Pittsburgh Steelers, with a lift of 260 pounds in weight lifting. Villapiano scored in all seven events and won swimming to secure second place. Harris won the obstacle course to earn third place and a second straight appearance in the final. With the top four athletes all qualifying for the finals, Lawrence McCutcheon of the Los Angeles Rams took second in the obstacle course and tied Steelers linebacker Jack Ham and tennis player Marty Riessen with 22 points. All three men advanced to the Superstars final.
